VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST 6310 IN TOLLESON, ARIZONA IS NAMED AFTER ROBERT "BOBBY" DIAZ LOPEZ.
HE WAS BORN ON FEBRUARY 23, 1946 IN TOLLESON, ARIZONA.
BOBBY GRADUATED FROM TOLLESON UNION HIGH SCHOOL IN 1965 WHERE HE PLAYED FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL. HE WAS AN EXCELLENT ATHLETE AND LIKED BY HIS FELLOW STUDENTS. HE WAS A FRIEND TO MANY.
HE JOINED THE U. S. NAVY RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL HE COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND THEN WENT TO CORPSMAN TRAINING. UPON THE END OF HIS FIRST ENLISTMENT, HE RE-ENLISTED AND SERVED AS A HOSPITAL CORPSMAN ASSIGNED TO A 3RD MARINE UNIT. IN APRIL 24, 1970 HE AS SENT TO QUANG NAM PROVINCE, SOUTH VIETNAM. HE REACHED THE RANK OF PETTY OFFICER SECOND CLASS (E-5).
ON JUNE 1, 1970 AT THE AGE OF 24, HE WAS KILLED AS RESULT OF HOSTILE ACTION. HE WAS LAID TO REST AT GLENDALE RESTHAVEN PARK CEMETERY. ON THE WALL IN WASHINGTON D. C., ROBERT DIAZ LOPEZ IS LISTED ON PANEL W10, LINE 131.
HE WAS AWARDED THE FOLLOWING: PURPLE HEART; NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL; VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL WITH A CLUSTER; VIETNAM CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND NAVY/MARINE COMBAT ACTION RIBBON.
